Driving on worn-out tires is extremely risky; it’s crucial to judge the right moment for replacements. Here are seven clear warning signs that it’s time to visit your GMC dealership for new tires

Worn-Out Treads

Tires start off with about 10/32 or 11/32 of an inch in tread depth. This slowly wears down until the treads are no longer deep enough to maintain proper traction on slippery surfaces.

You should have your tires replaced by the time the treads reach 2/32 of an inch in depth, which is the legal minimum. If you drive a larger pickup for commercial purposes, the minimum legal limit may be 4/32 of an inch. Check if your truck meets the criteria for these limits.

Strange Wear Patterns

Unequal weighting at the front and rear of your truck or SUV will put extra pressure on certain tires, which makes them wear unevenly. This is why you need routine tire rotations. However, if your tires become excessively uneven, you may need to replace them instead.

Noise and Vibrations

Bad tires will roughen your ride considerably. If your ordinarily smooth, quiet GMC is vibrating more than usual and generating more road noise, check the tires; they could be worn out. This extra roughness and friction will also diminish your fuel efficiency.

Deep Punctures

Serious damage usually ruins a tire. The hole made by a deeply embedded object or puncture might be reparable. But if the hole is too big, jagged, or awkwardly positioned, the tire will have to go.

Large Gashes

Sharp objects on the road can gash tire rubber. Any long, deep gashes may have done too much harm to the tire’s structural integrity, especially if the gash is in a sidewall where the rubber is thinner.

Bulges or Blisters

Following a heavy impact with a pothole, curb, or other obstacle, always check your tires for bulges. A bulge or blister could indicate severe internal damage, causing air to become trapped under the upper layer of rubber.

Aging Tires

Most tires last from three to five years. If your tires have reached five years old, consider replacing them, even if they appear to be in good shape. Older tires are far more likely to become damaged or fail.
